Alaska Sea Life Center
Seward, Alaska

The Alaska Sea Life Center was created by CSP principals Bobby Poole and Peter Chermayeff (while at Cambridge Seven Associates) as a conceptual design and program for a new 60,000sf marine center in Seward, Alaska.  The center’s main objectives are to provide facilities for research related to Alaska’s coastal ecosystems and a facility for stranded pinnipeds, cetaceans and sea otters.  Medical treatment, care, and recovery  would promote the eventual release of these animals.  Visitors are presented with natural exhibit settings, seen above and below water level, which reveal the behavioral characteristics of sea life not normally seen by the general public.  The design was completed by Livingston Slone of Anchorage.
