The National Aquarium in downtown Baltimore, which opened in 1981, occupies a pier at the center of the city’s Inner Harbor. Its exhibits are a celebration of life in diverse aquatic habitats, including Maryland, Mountains to the Sea, fishes of a Caribbean coral reef, sharks in the open sea, and birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals of an Amazon rainforest. CSP Principal Peter Chermayeff, assisted by Peter Sollogub and Bobby Poole, directed site design, programming, architecture, exhibit design, graphic design, interior design and the coordination of all engineers and other design consultants for the original building. The Aquarium attracts 1,700,000 visitors per year. Chermayeff, Sollogub & Poole, Inc. is responsible for the design of the expansion to open in the spring of 2005. To Print Click
