Located near the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne, Massachusetts, the NMLC transforms an existing building supply warehouse into a marine mammal stranding and research center. It was initiated by Dr. Joseph Geraci, a veterinarian and world renowned specialist in the care of marine mammals, currently the Senior Director of Biological Programs at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The Center will serve the Cape Cod area, where many strandings occur of marine mammals and turtles, by providing facilities for research, medical treatment, recovery and display, with the goal of releasing animals back to the wild whenever possible. The design allows the programs to be accommodated with tanks, labs, offices, etc., with state of the art water systems and configurations of holding pools and equipment, at least cost while also allowing public viewing and promoting public participation.
